When I joined Goldman Sachs in 2020 as part of the New Analyst Program (NAPA), I was excited about the opportunities ahead—tackling challenging technical problems, growing my skills, and learning from some of the brightest minds in the industry. What I didn’t fully anticipate was how much my journey would shape me not just technically, but personally, helping me build connections and grow in unexpected ways.
Working on complex problems is at the heart of what we do, but there’s another equally important aspect: sharing what we learn. Over the years, I’ve realized how much value there is in taking our knowledge beyond our day-to-day work, contributing to the broader tech community, and learning from others in the process. That’s what motivated me to start giving tech talks at external conferences. I’ve been fortunate to speak at incredible events like PyCascades, PyOhio, Women Tech Network Conference, and PyLadies, where I’ve had the chance to connect with inspiring people and engage with diverse communities.
Recently, I reached an exciting milestone in my journey by delivering a tech talk at EuroPython 2024 in Prague—an experience I will always cherish. EuroPython is not only the largest conference for the Python programming language in Europe, but also one of the most significant Python conferences globally. For my talk, I delved into a subject that has long captured my curiosity: the internals of RocksDB. Databases are the backbone of so many systems we rely on daily, yet their internal workings often remain a mystery. Sharing insights into what makes them efficient was not only rewarding but also an opportunity to highlight an area I’m deeply passionate about.
Conferences are about more than just delivering talks—they’re about engaging with vibrant communities of technologists. From thought-provoking sessions to one-on-one conversations, these experiences are incredibly enriching. I always return inspired by the exchange of ideas and grateful for the opportunity to share the learnings from the impactful work we’re doing at Goldman Sachs.
Looking back, it's incredible how these experiences have shaped me. The technical challenges have pushed my limits, while the support from the firm has fostered my growth in ways I hadn't anticipated. Whether through conferences, networking, or mentoring, the firm encourages us to push boundaries and explore opportunities that contribute to both our personal development and the broader industry.
This culture of support gave me the confidence to take on international platforms, sharing my learnings with a global audience. I’m excited for the future—continuing to explore, learn, and share, as that’s what makes this journey so fulfilling.
